Summary

In this study, the intelligent irrigation systems were developed using the know-how extracted from a full-experienced farmer. Three treatments of irrigation management were used in a sandy greenhouse for melon cultivation. The Fuzzy control and the On-off control were examined with the Manual control. Variations of soil moisture content were predicted by the Fuzzy control system with various climate sensors. Compared to the manual irrigation by the farmer, the water-saving coefficients in the Fuzzy control and the On-off control were resulted in 48.7% and 16.5%, respectively. The quality of fruit cultivated by the Fuzzy control was almost the same as that of the On-off control or manual irrigation.
