Summary

The purpose of this study is to detect jamming in sealing aluminum vacuum metallizing film package for food material. Two types of package are examined; one is unpigmented silver package and the other is red colored. The detection algorithm developed in this study consists of the following methods: capturing image data of seal area from the package; 24bit, decomposition of RGB component; 8bit each, distinction of seal area, gray scale transformation, FFT, image denoising by mask operation, IFFT, edge treatment and binary conversion by the brightness threshold. The optimum brightness threshold is calculated by the discriminant analysis. The combined optimum brightness thresholds for the detection of jamming in unpigmented silver package are the brightness threshold of 55 and that of 35 using B-component of image data. The discrimination ratio of the jamming package is 99.6% under the above conditions. For red colored package, the optimum the brightness threshold for detecting jamming are the brightness threshold of 60 and that of 43 using B-component of image data, then the discrimination ratio is 94.3%. It was showed that the detection of jamming in sealing food package is possible by the detection systems developed in this study.
