Global Agriculture and Food Science Program

“Agricultural Capability” means the ability to solve various problems found in the field of agriculture by actively contributing to the local society.

In this program, students from Niigata University and Fukushima University will learn about the organic farming developed based on the experience and wisdom in Turkey; trade system with EU; and disaster risk reduction and recovery. From the resilient perspectives on food science, in addition to disasters, cultural difference may cause a great threat among different countries. As an example, students will seek to gain the understanding towards the peculiar Islamic food culture and processing, including halal certification. They will also challenge to earn competitiveness of Japanese crops and food as well as to develop advanced agricultural technology, including information technology (IT).

Similarly, students from Ankara University, Ege University, and Middle East Technical University will learn the approaches on the environmental preservation-based agriculture in Niigata and Fukushima prefectures, including organic farming; to build an advanced agricultural IT systems and smart agriculture; and the food science biotechnology. Through comparison between Japanese and Turkish agricultural production and foundation technologies, the participating students will gain the resilience.

Global Agriculture and Food Science Program (Intermediate-Term Exchange)

Period:three to five months
Eligible Applicants:Master and Doctoral-level students
Courses:Global Internship in Agriculture and Food Science (Intermediate Program) (1 credit)
Global Research in Agriculture and Food Science (Intermediate Program) (2 credits)

Global Agriculture and Food Science Program (Long-Term Exchange)

Period:six to twelve months
Eligible Applicants:Master and Doctoral-level students
Courses:Global Internship in Agriculture and Food Science (Long Program) (2 credits)
Global Research in Agriculture and Food Science (Long Program) (4 credits)
  • Short-Term Exchange students are able to earn the credits based on the pre- and post-participation reports in addition to evaluations by supervisors in both countries.
  • Intermediate and Long-Term Exchange students are able to earn credits through the evaluations by supervisors in both countries. Furthermore, those who take Global Internship in Agriculture and Food Science are required to submit pre- and post-participation reports as well as making presentations on what they learned upon returning to home university. Based on the evaluations on the presentations, the students are able to earn credits for the courses.
  • Participating students who successfully completed the program will receive the Certificate of Completion.
